Prices checked October 2026. A gutter guard is a cover that sits on top of the eavestrough to keep leaves out while letting water in. The price is set by three things: the type of guard, the length of eavestrough, and the height and condition of the house. In York Region and Toronto, maples, oaks and spruce drop leaves, seeds and needles from September into November, which is when most homeowners start asking whether guards would save them the fall clean-out.
How much do gutter guards cost per foot in Ontario?
The ranges below are built from 2026 price guides published by Ontario eavestrough and renovation companies in Toronto and the GTA, cross-checked against quotes homeowners posted on RedFlagDeals. They are market ranges, not Doyo prices. Installed prices include the guard, labour and usually a check of the eavestrough pitch; a full clean before installation is often extra.
| Guard type | Materials only, per foot | Installed, per foot | Lasts about | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Foam inserts | $3 to $7 | Rarely installed by pros | 3 to 5 years | Light debris, budget DIY on a bungalow |
| Plastic or vinyl screen | $1.50 to $4 | $5 to $8 | 5 to 10 years | Large leaves only |
| Snap-in or perforated aluminum | $2 to $5 | $7 to $12 | 10 to 15 years | Most maple and oak streets |
| Reverse curve (surface tension) | $5 to $12 | $8 to $18 | 15 to 20 years | Large leaves; not steep roofs or very heavy rain |

How much do gutter guards cost for a whole house?
Multiply the per-foot price by the length of eavestrough, which is roughly the perimeter of the roof edges that carry a trough. A semi or a small bungalow often has 90 to 120 feet, a typical detached two-storey 130 to 160 feet, and a large detached home with garage 200 feet or more. Measure along the trough runs, not the floor plan, because porches and garage roofs add length.
| Home | Eavestrough length | Aluminum at $7 to $12/ft | Micro-mesh at $15 to $30/ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semi or small bungalow | 100 ft | $700 to $1,200 | $1,500 to $3,000 |
| Detached two-storey | 150 ft | $1,050 to $1,800 | $2,250 to $4,500 |
| Large detached with garage | 200 ft | $1,400 to $2,400 | $3,000 to $6,000 |
Are gutter guards worth it in Ontario?
They are worth it when the cleaning would otherwise cost you more, or put you on a ladder you should not be on. Compare them with what you pay now. If a two-storey house needs two cleanings a year at $200 to $325 each, guards that cost $1,500 and halve the visits take several years to pay back on cleaning alone. The stronger case is safety and water: a two-storey eavestrough that overflows every storm soaks the foundation, and a trough packed with leaves in December freezes into a heavy block that can pull the eavestrough off the fascia.
- Worth it: tall trees over the roof, pine needles or maple seeds, a two-storey or steep roof, or an owner who should not use a tall ladder.
- Probably not worth it: a bungalow with no trees nearby, a roof you can reach safely from a short ladder, or eavestroughs that are sagging or leaking and need replacing first.
- Fix first: if water already overflows at one corner, check the pitch and the downspout. Guards do not fix a trough that slopes the wrong way or a blocked underground drain.
Do gutter guards still need cleaning?
Yes, less often. Screens and perforated aluminum collect leaves on top that need brushing off, and fine shingle grit and seed pods still get through to the trough. Micro-mesh keeps out more but can film over with pollen and tree sap, so water sheets over the edge in heavy rain until it is brushed. Plan on an inspection every fall and a clean every two to three years, and expect a cleaner to charge extra to remove and refit screw-in guards.
Should I buy gutter guards from a door-to-door or in-home salesperson?
You can, but get at least two other written quotes first and compare the per-foot price for the same type of guard. Big-brand micro-mesh is often sold through an in-home appointment, a high first price and a same-visit discount; Ontario homeowners on RedFlagDeals report first quotes falling by more than half once they pushed back. Under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, a contract you sign at home comes with a 10-day cooling-off period, starting the day you receive a written copy, during which you can cancel in writing for any reason.
What does Doyo charge for gutter cleaning?
Doyo does not install gutter guards; it books gutter cleaning. Gutter Cleaning on Doyo is $177 per storey, $212.40 minimum, the full price with Doyo's fee included. It covers gutters and downspouts cleared by hand, downspouts flushed and checked, ladders and equipment brought, and debris bagged and taken away. If you are deciding on guards, a cleaning first shows you the state of the eavestroughs, and the pro can tell you about sagging runs or blocked downspouts. Tell the Doyo agent if guards are already installed.
