What customers see

Deck permits

In Milton, any deck attached to a house or other structure needs a building permit, whatever its size, and so does a free-standing deck larger than 10 m². Deck height, privacy screens, setbacks and stairs also have to meet the Zoning By-law.

Building permits

Milton needs a building permit before any portion of a basement is finished, and a kitchen isn’t allowed in a finished basement unless the space is approved as a secondary dwelling unit. Basement permits are inspected in stages, including below-grade, above-grade and final plumbing inspections.

Trees

Street trees belong to the Town of Milton and can’t be removed by residents. For a tree entirely on your own property, the Town asks you to confirm it’s on your side of the line and recommends a certified arborist before removal; lots over 0.5 hectares or inside the Regional Greenlands System also fall under Halton Region’s tree rules.

Heritage properties

On a property designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, Milton typically requires a heritage permit to replace or change windows or doors, change trim, roofing or cladding, add or remove decks, fences or porches, build an addition, or even paint the exterior.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Customers let Doyo pros into their homes. These checks are why they do.

  • 18 or older, legally able to work in Canada
  • Government photo ID and a matching selfie
  • A clear police record check
  • A smartphone with the Doyo Pro app
  • Your own tools, and transport to jobs

No provincial licence

No provincial licence is needed to build a deck or a fence, but many decks need a building permit from the town. Say in your quote which permits the job needs and who applies for them.

Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.

Payouts

How payouts work

For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.
