What customers see

Building permits

King needs no building permit for a rear-yard deck under 10 m² (108 sq ft) that is not attached to the house, for a storage shed of 10 m² or less (up to 15 m² if detached, storage-only and with no plumbing), for a fence that does not enclose a pool, for re-shingling a house, or for a like-for-like furnace or water-heater replacement. Any deck over 10 m² or more than 600 mm (2 ft) above grade needs one, and so does repairing or installing a septic system.

Trees

King has no permit for removing a single tree on your own property and you need not notify the Township. A tree that is part of a woodlot or woodland needs a permit from York Region Forestry, and trees on parks or road allowances may not be removed or pruned.

Yard waste

King collects yard waste from the week of April 6 to the week of December 1, in paper yard-waste bags or open rigid containers marked as yard waste; bundles can be at most 1.5 m (5 ft) long and 22 kg (50 lb). Grass clippings are no longer collected, and plastic bags are left behind.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Customers let Doyo pros into their homes. These checks are why they do.

  • 18 or older, legally able to work in Canada
  • Government photo ID and a matching selfie
  • A clear police record check
  • A smartphone with the Doyo Pro app
  • Your own tools, and transport to jobs

No provincial licence

No provincial licence is needed to build a deck or a fence, but many decks need a building permit from the town. Say in your quote which permits the job needs and who applies for them.

Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.

Payouts

How payouts work

For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.

Doyo’s fee is added on the customer’s side, on top of your rate — you keep the rate you set. Some categories carry a smaller fee on large jobs. Whatever applies is fixed on the job when you accept it, and your earnings are shown on the offer.
