Yard waste

Halton Region collects Burlington’s yard waste from the first week of April to the second week of December on your garbage day, in paper yard waste bags or open, labelled rigid containers — never plastic bags. Each bag or container can hold up to 125 L and weigh no more than 50 lb, and brush must be tied in bundles no larger than 2 m by 1 m with branches under 7.5 cm across.

Trees

Inside Burlington’s urban area, removing or injuring a private tree 20 cm (8 in) or more in diameter at 1.37 m needs a City permit; public trees of any size always do. Dead, terminally ill or high-risk trees confirmed by a qualified professional still need a permit, but the fees and replacement compensation are waived.

Snow

Burlington’s windrow clearing program is a paid sign-up service: $150 plus tax for the season, half price for seniors 65 and over, residents with a disability and those on GIS or ODSP. Enrolled driveways are cleared after snowfalls of 7.5 cm or more, within 32 hours after the snow stops and 8 hours after residential roads are plowed.

No. Gutter cleaning, yard cleanup, mowing and snow removal need no provincial licence. Weed or insect spraying with pesticides is licensed work and is not booked as outdoor work.

Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.

Payouts

How payouts work

For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.

Why Doyo Pro

Doyo’s fee is added on the customer’s side, on top of your rate — you keep the rate you set. Some categories carry a smaller fee on large jobs. Whatever applies is fixed on the job when you accept it, and your earnings are shown on the offer.

Burlington’s Building Department. Burlington doesn’t need a building permit for a fence, a shed under 15 m² with no plumbing, like-for-like furnace or air-conditioner replacement, or swapping plumbing fixtures of the same type in the same place. Most other work — including a basement finish — goes through a building permit application, and the City asks for a Pre-Building Approval (zoning, grading and tree check) first.
