Building permits
Toronto Building needs a permit for a deck more than 60 cm (24 in) above the ground, for basement work that changes the structure, adds plumbing or creates a unit, for new or modified heating and plumbing, and for a backwater valve. Replacing a furnace or boiler in a house, or repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, needs none. North York’s Toronto Building district office is at the North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge St., by appointment.

No provincial licence
Ontario has no general contractor licence, so none is checked for renovation itself. The licensed parts of a job — electrical, plumbing, gas — still need the licensed trade.
Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.
Payouts
How payouts work
For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.
