Building permits
Pickering’s Building Services needs a permit for finishing a basement with walls added or removed, any new plumbing, enlarging or moving windows and doors, a shed over 15 m² (161 sq ft) and a deck more than 60 cm (24 in) above the ground. Furnace or boiler replacement in a detached house, same-size window replacement and basement waterproofing repairs need none.

Pickering’s tap water comes from Lake Ontario through Durham Region’s lake-based system, with a hardness of 125 mg/L as calcium carbonate — enough to leave scale on fixtures and in water heaters over time.

Licensed trade
Yes. Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario, so Doyo checks your Certificate of Qualification (306A) before you are offered plumbing work, and again when it is due to renew.
Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.
Payouts
How payouts work
For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.
