What customers see

Building permits

Georgina needs a building permit to finish a basement or turn a basement room into a bedroom, for any deck attached to the house or a detached deck more than 0.6 m (2 ft) above grade, and for a detached shed over 15 m² (161 sq ft). A boundary fence that does not enclose a pool, re-shingling with no structural work, and replacing plumbing fixtures without altering the plumbing need none; new plumbing and heating or air-conditioning work do.

Trees

York Region’s Forest Conservation Bylaw applies in Georgina: trees in a treed area larger than 0.2 ha (0.5 acre) cannot be removed or injured without a permit first. York Region Forestry (1-877-464-9675) confirms which permit applies to a property.

Yard waste

Georgina collects yard waste with the recycling every second week from April to November, in Kraft paper yard bags or open garbage containers of 22 kg (50 lb) or less, with no limit on how many. Grass clippings, dirt and sod are not collected; branches go out tied in bundles no longer than 122 cm (4 ft).

Requirements

What you’ll need

Customers let Doyo pros into their homes. These checks are why they do.

  • 18 or older, legally able to work in Canada
  • Government photo ID and a matching selfie
  • A clear police record check
  • A smartphone with the Doyo Pro app
  • Your own tools, and transport to jobs

No provincial licence

No provincial licence is needed to build a deck or a fence, but many decks need a building permit from the town. Say in your quote which permits the job needs and who applies for them.

Some trades also ask for proof of liability insurance; the application tells you if yours does. Doyo reviews your documents — usually within a couple of business days.

Payouts

How payouts work

For jobs the customer pays by card through Doyo, your earnings reach your Doyo balance when the job is completed, and payouts are sent weekly by e-transfer. Tips are yours in full. On quote jobs, the deposit and balance are held until the customer confirms the work, and a warranty holdback is released after the warranty period.
