Building permits

Markham needs a building permit for finished basements, second units and any plumbing inside a building (a separate plumbing permit). A rear-yard deck needs none if it is under 10 m², not attached to the house and no more than 600 mm (2 ft) above the ground; anything else does. Fences need no permit unless they enclose a pool.
