How to find furnace repair in Richmond Hill: a homeowner's guide

• Someone at your door or on the phone offering a free furnace inspection. Since March 1, 2018, Ontario bans signing furnace, air conditioner and water heater contracts at your home unless you invited the business first.
• A technician who declares the heat exchanger cracked and pushes an immediate replacement without showing you the crack or a combustion test result. Ask for a second opinion.
• Rental or financing offers pressed on the spot. Since June 6, 2024, companies can no longer register a notice of security interest on your home's title for a consumer rental such as a furnace.
• No written estimate. Ontario's Consumer Protection Act requires a written agreement for repairs over $50 and caps the final bill at 10% over the estimate unless you agree to more.
