Changes to the tree by-laws took effect on September 1, 2026, so check the City’s page before a tree comes down. Toronto collects yard waste from mid-March to mid-December in kraft paper yard waste bags or rigid open-top containers; bundles up to 1.2 m long and 20 kg, branches up to 7.5 cm across. Grass clippings, sod and soil are not taken.
